Complessità e significati del mashrabiya nelle arti islamiche tra tradizione e innovazione digitale

Abstract

In relazione al tema della complessità e al suo significato etimologico in termini di intreccio di elementi costituenti un’unità caratterizzata da variabilità, il contributo propone un focus sul Patrimonio culturale dell’arte islamica considerando le connessioni, le interazioni ambientali e socio-culturali e le intersezioni tra artigianato e design del Mashrabiya. Costituito da un volume aggettante sul fronte stradale, rivestito di raffinati pattern modulari generalmente in legno, il diaframma funziona come un dispositivo climatico e per la privacy, rispondendo ad alcuni principi tradizionali del mondo arabo, soprattutto legati alla condizione femminile. Lo studio indaga sul ruolo simbolico e culturale del Mashrabiya, analizzando calcoli e geometrie che sottendono il disegno dei pattern e proponendo la loro sistematizzazione in archivi open-source. In equilibrio tra tradizione e innovazione, al fine di preservare e trasmettere il valore del Mashrabiya per evoluzioni future, il contributo s’interroga sull’integrazione tra tecniche artigianali e design parametrico attraverso la collaborazione di diverse competenze.

Architetto e PhD, è Professore Associato di Design presso il Dipartimento di Pianificazione Design Tecnologia dell’Architettura. È Direttore del Master in Exhibit Design ‘Cecilia Cecchini’. Svolge attività di ricerca nell’ambito della Storia del Design e dell’Architettura del Novecento, della Comunicazione del Patrimonio culturale e del Design per lo spazio pubblico. È Guest Investigator CIEBA (Portugal) e ha ricevuto per due monografie e un documentario premi Eccellenze del Design nel Lazio Adi con diritto di partecipazione al premio Compasso d’oro.
