SCIENTIFIC DIRECTORS

  Giuseppe De Giovanni | University of Palermo, Italy
Architect and Full Professor in Architecture Technology at the Department of Architecture. Currently, he coordinates the International Mobility Program Erasmus+ in cooperation with the Universities of Visby (Uppsala University – Campus Gotland, Sweden) and the RWTH in Aachen (Germany). He is the President of the Euro-Mediterranean Documentation and Research Centre (DEMETRA Ce.Ri.Med.), the President of the Scientific Committee of INSA (Istituto Nazione Sostenibile Architettura, an honorary member of the Mangiarotti Foundation, and a founding member of SITdA (Società Italiana della Tecnologia dell’Architettura). He carries out research on the recovery and preservation of existing buildings, the history of techniques and constructive processes in the Sicilian environment, temporary architecture (for the emergency, health and pleasure), technological and domestic design for assisted nursing homes and for elderly people suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, designing products for the Design for All

   Cesare Sposito | University of Palermo, Italy
Architect and PhD, he is an Associate Professor of Architectural Technology, and teaches the Building Technology Studio and the Environmental Design Studio at the Department of Architecture – University of Palermo; he was a member of the PhD Board in Recovery of Ancient Contexts and Innovative Processes in Architecture, from 2007 to 2012. He is the Scientific Director of the publishing series in 'Project | Essays and Researches' (Palermo University Press), a founding member of the DEMETRA Ce.Ri.Med. (Euro-Mediterranean Documentation and Research Centre), and a founding member of SITdA (Società Italiana della Tecnologia dell’Architettura). He is a member of several scientific committees in international conferences and publishing series, since 2015. He carries out research on protection systems for archaeological sites, the recovery of abandoned industrial areas, social housing, innovative materials for architecture, nanotechnologies and energy-saving of buildings

 

MANAGING DIRECTOR

   Micaela Maria Sposito
PhD in History and Conservation of Architectural Heritage and a degree in Literature in Florence, since 1999 she has been enrolled in the Registered of Publicist Journalists of Palermo (n. 4923). Over the years, she became interested in the History of Architecture and the History of Art, making them the subject of her work aimed at the knowledge and protection of Cultural Heritage. She has collaborated with several journals, including the ‘Demetra | Semestrale di Architettura e Arte’ (Alloro Editrice, Palermo), the semiannual of Literature and Art ‘Il Portolano’ (Poligrafica, Firenze), the quarterly ‘La Sicilia Ricercata’ (Bruno Leopardi Editore, Palermo), and the newspapers ‘Giornale di Sicilia’ and ‘L’Adige’. Art Curator at the Transarte Gallery in Rovereto and a Member of the Boards of the ‘Sergio Poggianella Foundation’ and the ‘Civic Museum Foundation of Rovereto’, she is the author and editor of various scientific publications and art catalogues

Architect and PhD, she is the co-founder and Research Manager at DEMETRA Ce.Ri.Med. (Euro-Mediterranean Documentation and Research Center), Palermo (Italy) She is a member of several International Steering Committees as well as a Reviewer for various scientific Journals. She carried out research on Green Materials, Innovative Materials for Architecture, Nanomaterials, and Energy Saving in Buildings. Her main Research Projects are ‘Natural and artificial innovative materials for architecture’, ‘Nanotechnologies for unfired clay bricks (tradition, innovation and sustainability)’, ‘Recovery and conservation of Architectural Heritage using nanostructured materials and innovative technologies’

Alberto Sposito (1939-2018)
Full Professor Emeritus of Architectural Technology at the Department of Architecture (University of Palermo), he was Scientific Director of the DEMETRA International Journal and the SPIGOLATURE series, Coordinator of the PhD in Recovery and Fruition of Ancient Contexts at the University of Palermo and member of the International Scientific Council of the Biennale of Archeology, he was co-founder and President of Euro-Mediterranean Documentation and Research Centre (DEMETRA Ce.Ri.Med.). He promoted national and international conferences on the issues of conservation, enhancement and fruition of cultural heritage. He has published numerous articles and essays on the transformation processes of the built environment, on the natural and artificial materials involved in the conservative processes of cultural heritage, and on deepening their historical and technological knowledge
